Deborah Mutemwa was admitted as an advocate in 2023 and joined the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in December 2023. Practising from Chambers '56, she focuses on commercial, constitutional, administrative and competition law, appearing before superior courts, competition authorities, arbitrations and administrative tribunals.

Before joining the Bar, Deborah practised at Webber Wentzel and Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, clerked for Justice Sisi Khampepe at the Constitutional Court, served as Acting Head of Legal and Investigations at Corruption Watch, and co-founded boutique commercial law firm Tumbo Scott.

Her notable matters include Vodacom v Makate, SAHRA v Mandela, President v Sigcau, Native Child Africa v Akinwale, and Kopanang Africa v Operation Dudula. She has been recognised by Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans and Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30. Deborah also holds independent non-executive directorships and serves as an inaugural trustee of the ABSA Corporate Social Investment Trust.
